Oslo is a world-leading financial city. It has succeeded in attaching a strong knowledge base to the finance industry, feeding into the energy sector as well as ocean industries such as shipping and seafood. Despite the economic downturns across most of the world, the Norwegian financial sector has been growing steadily over the last decade, and the Oslo region has the potential to strengthen this financial position even further. Oslo Børs (Oslo Stock Exchange) is the largest stock exchange for shipping in Europe, and second in the world, based on the number of listed companies. There are more than 20 companies listed on the OSLO Shipping Index, accounting for 6.5 per cent of the total stock exchange market value. The mix of companies listed reflects Oslo´s capacity in finance and knowledge-based services.
